Amid the current craziness and uncertainty, it’s taken a while to register and although it seems odd to celebrate in these weirdest of times, this is something I’ve wanted for as long as I can remember and doesn’t come around very often so while the moment is here I’d like the thank the people who’ve made it possible. My training partners at home in Qld. as well as the rest of the Aus Radial Squad who have trained, traveled, laughed, learnt and grown with and around me, I’m so incredibly proud to have the opportunity to work and become friends with so many talented, supportive individuals. I owe so much of my development to these people and look forward to continuing to work with many of them for years to come! Without the facilities and financial support of The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron I wouldn’t have been able to compete at the events necessary to bounce back from an underwhelming season in 2018 to crack the top 10 internationally the next year. The Queensland Academy of Sport, who have facilitated the coaching and support that has shaped my development from the very beginning of my involvement in Olympic sailing. The Australian Sailing Team who’s collective expertise and support team have offered invaluable insight into the world of high performance sport. Finally, and most notably, my coach Ash Brunning and my parents. Some things really do line up well and the year I began racing dinghys out of the RQYS (thanks to Brady Lowe and Danny Fuller) was coincidentally the same year Ash moved up to Qld as the QAS head coach. Back then in 2015 I had no idea how fortunate that was to be but 5 years later I realize how grateful I am to have been picked up by the subsequent rising tide of success. Of course, nothing at all is possible without our parents but this couldn’t be more true for me. For as long as I can remember, mine have both worked tirelessly to ensure the best possible opportunities for me in every way, regardless of how tough things have been for them, an endless source of positivity and the my favorite faces to come home to after long days, weeks and months of riding the highs and lows of sport.
Back to the present situation and with the games postponed now until 2021, I see a tremendous opportunity for myself in the extra preparation time but as always health and safety comes first and I look forward to adapting to whatever comes next! In the meantime, be considerate and stay safe everyone!
